Shop The Beach Hut Look

Nothing says British Summer like the humble beach hut. Or rather, the not so humble beach hut, with seaside sheds on sought after coastlines exchanging hands for tens of thousands of pounds these days! Whether you’ve managed to get your hands on one for real, or are styling your garden summerhouse, you can easily achieve the beach hut vibe with a coastal colour scheme and a few essential items.

Coastal Blues and Chalky Whites

We love the simplicity of the beach hut and think calming coastal colours works best. By mixing chalky whites and natural linen tones, with all shades of blues, you can be instantly transported to the shore.

Texture

Make the most of the hut by whitewashing the weatherboard and mixing with washed wooden shelving and furniture. But don’t go overboard on one material; make sure you mix in vintage metals like this café chair and soften with linen. We’ve draped one of our Giant Pure Irish Linen Wraps (£59) behind the chair. Add a few key accessories, but beware don’t clutter.

Top 5 Beach Hut Essentials

Picnic Rug: Perfect for laying out on the promenade and getting down to business with your packed lunch. Here we have our Sea Green picnic blanket rolled in a chestnut leather strap (£119).

Radio / MP3: While away the hours listening to your favourite beats or tune into the ‘wireless’ for entertaining radio anecdotes. If you’re away, local radio is a great source of information for finding out what’s on in the area too. Pictured here is a BUSH retro DAB radio in cherry wood. The Revo Superconnect gets amazing reviews and can stream direct from Spotify, but it's quite pricy at £280.

Lantern: When the sun is setting light up your hut with a lantern. Hurricane lanterns housing candles make for a great atmosphere but we love the convenience and safety of solar powered ones. We picked ours up at a local garden centre but you can get similar from The Forest & Co at Not on the Highstreet.

Throws and Wraps: It’s not all sunshine and searing heat – in fact it rarely is - so make sure you have plenty of blankets, throws and wraps to cosy up in for blustery beach days. Pictured here (anticlockwise) are the Tolly McRae Peacock Ombre Luxury Throw (£132), Beach Hut Blue chunky throw (£99), Royal Navy chunky outdoor throw (£99), Merino Reversible Peacock Throw (£124), Aqua Oversized Merino Travel Wrap (£59) and (on chair) the Sea Mist Superset Merino Throw (£124).

A Cuppa and a good book: A day at the seaside wouldn’t be complete without a brew so make sure you have teabags on hand or take a flask along. Our favourite is the classic Stanley Vacuum Flask in Hammertone Green, at £33 from John Lewis. Once it’s poured, all you have to do is put your feet up and get stuck into a good book for true relaxation.
